Title: Re: plant trek
Are there any more ideas or tales? A bus!, a bus would be nice.
I can fill a van with plants all by myself...
But, about two months ago, a friend invited me to a plant sale at
an arboretum about 90 minutes from our community. There was a
plant sale at the local botanical garden on the same day but we've
done that one dozens of times so on Saturday morning at 7 am, she and
I were barreling down a deserted highway towards the lovely (that's a
joke) town of Riverside California.
As I awoke at 6 am that morning, I thought "this is crazy, I
could sleep two more hours and just go to the plant sale down the
street!" But no one ever accused me of being sane so off we
went. I even took my great big plant wagon (a deal at Costco for
$75 and put together by my 10 year old son).
In less than an hour, we over filled my van. First we
filled the wagon and hoisted it into the van (actually, some very
large men hoisted it for us). Then, we crammed pots beneath the
wagon, around the wagon, under the seat wells, in the door wells, on
top of other plants, on her lap (I was driving) and on and on.
Thank goodness we hadn't invited anyone else (we'd discussed it but
decided we'd need the room. We were right).
We laughed the entire way home... Now that is what I
call a great haul!
