Robert,

Finally found time to search for the bit of paper I'd written the name on
and LO!  I found it (miracles *do* happen).  You are 100% correct!  It is
R. nitida 'Herbstonne" , thank you!  .....a *very* nice plant for mid to
back of border, IMO and one of the few that truly flowers for months. 
Interesting seed cones, too.  Needs staking in my partial shade.
