Re: Pulmonaria

>Plants for shade
>PULMONARIA

A very interesting posting of wich I couldn't find enough in this group.
Treating a whole genus is the most clearyfying way to compare and
understand.

However before I correct names in my database it would be nice if it were
more clear where this information came from. I have many books that treat
the genus only few can be considered scientifically correct.
So, who wrote this? Is this the latest scientific stadard or did this come
from a book that copied opinions from other books? I am not a botanist but
a nursery owner that puts pherhaps to much emphasis on correctly naming
plants. To my knowledge there is some confusion about wich species
cultivars belong to.

For example these are the names I use (known to be synonyms):

Pulmonaria angustifolia 'Beth Blue'
Pulmonaria angustifolia 'Munstead Blue'
Pulmonaria montana 'Mrs Kittle' (P. mollis 'Mrs Kittle' / P. saccharata
'Mrs Kittle')
Pulmonaria officinalis 'Cambridge Blue' (P. saccharata 'Cambridge Blue')
Pulmonaria officinalis 'Sissinghurst White' (P. saccharata 'Sissinghurst White')
Pulmonaria 'Roy Davidson'
Pulmonaria rubra 'Redstart' (P. montana 'Redstart')
Pulmonaria saccharata 'Dora Bielefeld'
Pulmonaria saccharata 'Leopard'
Pulmonaria saccharata 'Mrs Moon' (P. picta 'Mrs Moon')
Pulmonaria villarsae 'Margery Fish' (P. saccharata 'Margery Fish'
/P.vallarsae 'Margery Fish')

I write this just because I'm curious to find out wether 'Sissinghurst
white is officinalis or saccharata.

Here in the Netherlands a very nice new complete silver cultivar has arized
under the name 'Majeste' the leaves are long and of the best silver I have
seen for Pulmonaria, it is a smashing plant.
