This has bothered me a bit, as well. I like to experiment with different
plants to see what likes it where, and which will make it through the
winter. And the results are probably not as pleasing to the eye as those
wonderful "professional"-looking gardens we've all seen. In fact, I
frequently feel a bit guilty for not making massed beds, but when it was
done, I'd be locked in. No fun! So, I tell myself the crazy quilt yard
is "English-cottage style" (It's not).
