Re: Mass vs individual planting -Reply

Same problem here. I've narrowed one small border (roughly a 8' X 20'
crescent) to three colors: white, pink, and "blue". Easy on the eye, but
allows me freedom to choose a large variety of plants. It doesn't look as
jumbled because of the soft color scheme.

I've always felt that a mass planting of one type of plant is great for
front yards or public gardens that want to make an impact, but boring if I
had to see it everyday. In an intimate setting such as a private garden, I
like to see gardens that are reflections of the owner. Not a one of us can
be expressed by using just one plant; we are all mercurial and complex.
Even Mother Nature breaks up the monotony of an all-green forest by
interspersing leaf textures, different shades of green that change with the
seasons, and the ever-present accent plant that catches your eye, such as a
white trillium or pink orchid.

Just my opinion. Let your garden be something that pleases YOUR eye.
After all, you are the one that will be working in it everyday!
