One of my catalogues is offering a perennial that sounds interesting,
Acaena microphylla (a.k.a. New Zealand burr, I believe).
Catalogue indicates it's a tough, rapid growing ground cover with tiny
bronzed leaves and red flowers, wants sun or half-shade, blooms
June-August, grows 10 cm (4 in) tall, hardy to zone 3.
Can anyone tell me more? I'm interested in this as a ground cover for the
front of a sunny bed; the flower and foliage colours are right. I know,
"rapid grower" often means invasive, but here in zone 3 I find that most
vigorous-growing plants are still manageable (well, except maybe
goutweed).Does it _really_ bloom June to August?
Any additional details much appreciated.
