seed packets

While drooling over the catalogs, making lists, changing my mind...it
occurred to me "Why do I need to spend $3.00 for a packet of 200
perennial seeds when I only need a dozen plants?"
It seems to me that somewhere along the line I ran across an ad for some
seed company that sold smaller packages. Is anyone familiar with that,
or did I dream it? Has anyone done "seed sharing"? I'm trying really
hard to figure out a way to get the variety of plants I want without
spending a fortune! What do the rest of you do with extra seeds?
