Hi Everybody,
No one has mentioned my favorite horrible perennial weed, but I'll bet
plenty of us grow it! I am referring to the so-called "Deadly Nightshade"
(also related to tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, etc I think). It is a very
strong vine that winds around and around things and then the stems turn very
woody and the roots go for yards and yards. I just finished weeding and
pruning my raspberry patch and it has run rampant in there. The flowers are
a pretty purple and the very same shape as potato flowers, followed by red
berries that turn black, fall to the ground and make more vines. Plus the
birds spread them around. The berries are very attractive and quite
poisonous, I am told. I don't have bindweed (I have seen it in lots of
gardens here and we all have clay soil Margaret) but this pest is at least
as noxious!

Yep...and more than 2' deep. I've read they can go as deep as 10
feet and I believe it. Probably to the core of the earth, if truth
were told, where they imbibe molten lava and gain strength.
It's a deal...I'll take your Queen Anne's Lace - a plant I used to
have and have no more and actually like - and ship you all my
loathsome mugwort! Be warned...mugwort has roots patterned after
bindweed, only fatter. Just as brittle and going about as deep and
able to regenerate from microscopic bits....
