You might also want to try beneficial nematodes which will eat the larvae in

I agree with you, Sevin is not a good idea. If covers and nematodes don't do
the trick, an alternative spray can be made by mixing 1 tablespoon of
isopropyl alcohol with a pint of diluted pyrethrum. --Janis
