Re: Lurker returns and question about hardy kiwi

Sheila,

funny you should ask. I'm looking at the latest White Flower Farm catalog.
In it they list Actinidia kolomikta 'Arctic Beauty Kiwi'. Verbiage:

"...this distinctly ornamental species from East Asia whose appeal lies not
in its flowers, which are inconspicuous, but in its uniquely decorated
leaves. They are pink at the tip, white in the middle, and green at the
base, providing a delightful tricolor effect. Who needs flowers when you
can have this elegant combination from spring to fall? Plants thrive in
full sun or partial shade and average garden soil. Don't expect any fruit,
by the way. We offer male plants only, because they have the best
coloring."

From previous discussions on this list, I believe you must have both the
male and female vines to get fruit. Where the archives are for the list, I
don't know. But if someone can direct you there, I believe that there was
a very extensive discussion on kiwi vines.

Good luck.
