How long - until there is no frost outside or the fern is acclimatized to
cold weather. We soaked them in warm weather but didn't overly worry about
temperatures once they hit the cold frame. They'd start growing in a week
or three.

If they were mine on the home front, I'd simply soak them in the warm water
and then plant them in a frost free garden. I'd skip the pot - we only used
the pot because we were going to sell the plant.
