Re: Losing dictamnus

I've had the same experience as Marilyn---they just grow here with little of anything in the way of attention.  I did have one large plant that died for no apparent reason during the summer--it definitely was not from being soggy--if anything it was too hot and dry.  Otherwise they seem to be iron.  The seedpods left after blooming dry very well at different stages and are quite dramatic, too.  The ones I have grew self seeded from a very old plant of my neighbors, some are pink and some white.   Judy Warner

Gas plant is the common name.  I've always wanted to try it, never been able to find it locally.  Finally mail ordered it this year.  I hear from a friend in Oregon that he has lost it many times.  That they require quite good drainage.

Anyone have any suggestions for soggy Oregon?  Fill the hole with 1/2 gravel half compost?  What do you think?

I've lost it twice immediately after planting.  If you solve the problem, please report back.
