Clematis montana

    Would Clematis montana survive Zone
4 if planted deeper? you see.....I have
    this huge fallen tree......

Corinne

Maybe a heavy mulch would be better than deeper planting. My C. montana has put up (briefly) with temps below -20F, but don't know how it would fare with those temps for longer periods of time. In milder years (i.e, the past 3, it may survive for several feet above ground.

Any experienced clematiphiles out there?
