  We have not had really good luck using either in "full" sun in zone 5 
with a south facing hillside,  even with a tickle irrigation system they 
burn up-they do not die just  do not preform well.We ended up moving them 
to another border areas.

Since you are using lavender why not continue the theme with other showy 
herbs which thrive in full sun.  Some are extremely showy and are 
excellent border plants as found in many of the old english gardens often 
used in conjunction with roses.  Without knowing more we are reluctant to 
suggest specifics.
