To Steve with the V-rose garden:
What zone are you in? Full sun in zone 7 isn't the same as full sun in
zone 4! Makes a bit of difference for your geraniums. The only way I can
keep those in bloom in my zone 5/6 garden in Kentucky is to keep them
watered. And then when I finish that, I water them again.
You see, they grow like weeds in the UK where the climate is much different
than here. Summers are cooler for one thing. Full sun there (a
requirement, I understand for good flowering) is cooler than my hot, humid
one. Therefore I mulch very heavily (about 1-1/2 to 2" of finely shredded
bark and chopped autumn leaves) in the summer for them. I think you would
be better off with a low grower that likes OUR full sun. Before I can make
a recommendation, I'll need your zone. For me, I like the pink coreopsis
(but I'm sure you've seen that thread here already). The ground-covering
campanulas will provide a beautiful blue most of the summer, too. I've got
both with my roses.
