I'm with you.  Since I started growing Liatris microcephala, I decided that
the taller ones just weren't the effort anymore.  They always seemed to need
staking, or they were out of bloom and cut back and just didn't do it for
me.  L. microcephala, however, is a precious little thing especially when
gracing the front of the border.  Try it with tricolor saga behind.
