I have a golden hops vine which I planted two years ago and it has grown beyond
expectations. No spectacular flowers, but the 'fruit' is very interesting. Hops
are appropriate in this beer-producing state!
My problem is finding a not-too-expensive trellised arch to encourage it to form
an walk-through arch (with maybe another hops on the other side of the arch). I
wanted one with at least a 5 foot wide opening and thought I had found it on
page 50 in the Jackson and Perkins "Roses and Gardens" catalog. They offered a
Giverny Arch with a 6 foot wide spread, but when I phoned to order it yesterday,
they said the catalog was wrong; it was only 4 feet wide. Back to the search!
A friend suggested I could build one from 1/2 " PVC, but that doesn't sound very
sturdy to me (nor attractive). Any suggestions?
