I wonder how you are designing your raised beds.... Ours are made of two
2x4's on edge, capped with another 2x4 on top so the entire height is
probably about 10 inches above the soil. But, the bottoms are covered only
with hardware cloth to keep out gophers. Otherwise they are open to the
ground. All of the plants you listed will do fine in this kind of set-up,
the deep roots simply penetrate down into the ground below the hardware
cloth. FYI -- tomatoes, peppers, etc. all have roots that grow quite deep,
not just asparagus.
