I think you are looking for groupings of hostas, but I love them all so I'm
going a little different direction. Hope it still is helpful. I will add
that Frances Williams is my favorite hosta.
I have the evergreen Iris foetidissima (both plain green and variegated).
They give some coverage to the bed in winter and add another texture to the
garden. I also use a lot of ferns and Luzula with hostas but don't know if
they work in your area. Lamium also works in shady dry areas.
One thing about ginger in my area (west coast) is the work of slugs. They
really like this stuff. I don't know if that is a problem in RI.
