Re: Spring fever and primrose ?
Hello Margo,
Can't say for certain, but my guess is you have one of the polyanthus strains.
Possibly the Pacific Giant. That one shows up frequently this time of the
year.Lots of different parents involved and some of them are hardy. The Primula
you have was bred for pot culture. Can it survive outside? Maybe... but after we
get some consistent spring. Way too early as yet. to go outside.
Keep it in bright light and on the cool side if you can while inside. If it
survives until spring, plant it in a bed with rich soil high in humus with open
shade.
There are plenty of species and hybrids that will grow for you. There are over
400 species of Primula and countless hybrids to play with. Perhaps you would be
interested in knowing the American Primrose Society is forming a chapter in your
area. They also have a Listserve to join.
