I think the 'best' expression of purplish-red would be with the most sun and
plenty of moisture. It has been pretty dramatic with the half day sun here
however.
Rheum palmatum atropurpureum has been for sale locally in nurseries. I also
believe Joy Creek had some for sale a couple of years ago...I most remember
'Ace of Hearts' they had for sale and I foolishly didn't buy! Rheum
palmatum is easy from seed and by the first midsummer after germinating,
there is clear color choice.
