Do you want specific technical differences?

Here is a general list of differences:

True Geranium are temperate plants of woods and mountains. There are over
275 species of both perennials and annuals. Almost all are deciduous. Many
have "beaks" that cast seeds.

While Pelargoniums have 240 species or so they are mostly evergreen sub
shrubs or shrubs — Almost all are native from the southern half of Africa, a
few scattered here and there in tropical areas like Hawaii.
The flowers are clustered together into semi-Unbels.

There are some differences in the flowers between the two groups-but unless
you have studied taxonomy-the terms take a while to learn, best done with
live specimens to make comparisons.

Another interesting member of the family are the Erodium's from mostly in
mountain areas. <A HREF="http://www.euronet.nl/users/in001351/homepage.htm">

There are a number of groups dedicated to this family personally I like the
true geraniums and do not care that much for the Pelargoniums. I tend to
value foliage more than flowers, and like Primula, the foliage tends to be
coarse and unappealing in the Pelargoniums.

If you like the Pelargoniums and want to collect number of them -you can get
seeds for many species from here.
