Re: More Hardy geraniums

Hi there,

I'd just like to pick up a few odds and ends in this set of posts.

Firstly, G. 'Brookside' and G. 'Nimbus', although similar, are not the same
plant and can be separately identified. They were both seedling found at
the Cambridge University Botanic Garden, where Dr Peter Yeo did his
fundamental research on Geranium. The former is thought to be a seedling
of G. pratense and G. clarkei 'Kashmir Purple' and the latter of G. clarkei
and G. collinum. Both were raised in the late 70's, early 80's.

There is (validly) only one G. 'Johnson's Blue', which is a cross of G.
pratense and G. himalayense. It was raised in Holland in the 50's, from
seed given by A. T. Johnson. It is probably the plant described as stiffly
up-right. Goodness only knows what the other plant is, I guess a
nurseryman's seedling: a common problem of Geranium cultivars, which
generally do not come true from seed.
