Mowing by headlamp

>>He then
put on the car lights and mowed the lawn.

Last year, I invested (US $40ish) in a hiker's headlamp. Battery promises
about 20 hours of light. I mow after dark, wearing the headlamp, because I
can't do real gardening in the dark and the headlamp extends my working time
by moving the mowing into otherwise non-gardening time. Fortunately, my
neighbors are all deaf, and don't complain about late evening noise. Mowing
after dewfall isn't the greatest for the grass, but I'm not out there to
have a perfect lawn. In my part of USDA 7B, it will still be 85F at sunset
in July and August, so after dark may be the only safe time in terms of
heatstroke risk.

The best part is the wonderful surprise I get the next morning, when I come
out and see the lawn looking tidy.
