Don,
Charlesworth's life, too. He has two (only two) books and there is a lot of
philosophy and experience in those two books. He is a member of my rocks
group and a former president (twice). There are other poems in the books
which are collections of essays. Geoffrey Charlesworth is as so many of us
reincarnated as gardeners, he a math professor turned rock gardener. He has
been a generous man, germinating thousands of seed each year and contributing
many seedlings to the group sales.
About two years ago he did a slide show for the group documenting his
gardening life from azalea beds on Long Island to the NW Mass. garden where
the books were compiled. We had the good fortune to have him write for the
group newsletter for years. There were lots of mistakes along the way which
he presented with good humor. Of all his writing, this poem endures and
comes up in garden writing a great deal. I recommend Geoffrey Charlesworth's
two books. There is rock garden writing but it is not the dominant theme.
