Dianthus

I can remember my Dad sending for seeds of dianthus to England and they had
a lovely scent to them. Always reminded me of cloves. Of course, that
was, lets see, 40 years ago. I used to gather seeds for him and the scents
were lovely. Perhaps you should check out a catalog from England for seeds
and see if they have anything about scent listed.

There was an article in Victorian magazine about Tusha Tudor's garden and I
can remember that there was a small piece about the men of Scotland
(probably hundreds of years ago) who raised dianthus with intricate designs
on the flowers. Flowers were like checker boards. I'll try to find this
article. But they were lost with all the wars and the deaths of the men of
Scotland. Perhaps the scents were lost also. Anyone know of any truth to
this story?

Chilly here on the Mountain today.
