how about cobea? cardinal vine? Kiwi?
Cheryl
Thanks! I had a couple of passion vines and they went crazy, growing under
2 concrete dividers and into the yard. Ripped all the runners and the
parent plants out this past summer. I will avoid both perennial and annual
morning glory ( the later seeds insanely here- even in gravel!). I've grown
hyacinth bean- kind of want something new.
Now- the Senecio was new to me. Very interesting looking. Thanks for the
suggestion!!

Hi Theresa
Here are some ideas for vines:
Passion vines - butterflies love them!
Senescio confusis - mexican flame vine - not terribly tall but really
striking
Annual purple hyacinth bean
Do NOT plant perennial morning glory -you will curse the day you planted it!
G'luck!
Nan
I recently completed a garden wall with a path where the light/sign pole
happens to be. I am looking for ideas for a climbing plant that will climb
up the lightpole at the corner. Needs to be vigorous and tolerate
lousy soil(clay and gravel). Preferably something that doesn't reseed like
crazy, as it will be near my new raised beds with wonderful soil in them
(and I have
an idea that the only things that will grow in the native ground would be
invasive in the good soil). It will get irrigation in summer. Oh- it gets
significant sun and heat from the sidewalk/street. I will put up some type
of wire/fencing around the lightpole to help the plant climb. Any
suggestions?
