  Hi Barb,

I was growing Daphne x burkwoodii 'Carol Mackie'  successfully here 
in Milwaukee and, as I recall, it recovered from -20F, but lost all 
leaves.  I know you're colder, but maybe with protection..... 
Also, I did not have to acidify my soil.  Unfortunately, what did her 
in was my trying to transplant her at the wrong time.
