In Chicago the straight species is fairly invasive; when I worked at the Morton Arboretum twenty years ago I spent several days clearing out neighboring beds from seedlings and runners that were choking out other plants in the collections. The variegated one isn't as aggressive, although it does have a tendency to spread as well. My mother-in-law is trying to get rid of hers because it keeps spreading everywhere. My other problem with Ampelopsis is Japanese beetles. They really attack it hard and leave an unattractive mess behind. It's too bad that there's not more space, or I would say to grow a yellow trumpetcreeper (Campsis radicans 'Flava') there. The yellow flowers would be perfect against that blue siding.
