 No, I definetly want to loosen up that clay! There are woods right next
to the property also, so I can get the twigs and stuff there.
 I remember reading that there was a certain type of tree that had
growth inhibiter in it's leaves and should not be used in compost piles.
Any clue as to what that might be? I know a little about composting as I
do not like to burn leaves and garden leftovers and have done that in
the past. 

Coneflowers and rudebekia will grow in

I have indoor  cats (don't want them in my garden or the neighbors) so
mint would make a nice plant to start. I grew some catnip one year and
it came back without reseeding. The cats really liked that.
