Re: deer
Having just built a nursery on the State Hiway (for vehicles, and the
deer use the rear 2 acres for their own highway), I have been privledged
to serve up dinner for our fine freinds on several occasions.
Take note that deer don't seem interested in herbs. Take note also that
egg concoctions seem to have a deterring effect on deep appetites.
I mixed eggs with milk and poured it through a strainer. Added a bit of
dish soap to break the surface tension of the water, some horticultural
dormant oil (to help it stick thru rain...and I live next to the Olympic
National Rain Forest!), and the secret ingredient......essential oil of
clove. About 20 drops in a 2.5 gallon sprayer. Top the entire tank off
with water, lock the handle down and mist everything in sight.
It took me 1/2 hour to cover the entire nursery and it only took one
tank.
The deer like the heuchera out at the sign, and I sprayed that also.
So far, they have not been back, and it's been since early December that
I sprayed last.
I'd advise changing oils periodically ....clove, cinnamon, eucalyptus...
