Re: deer

In both cases it would be the smell. Human hair smells of humans (cat hair
smells of cats-unless your cats are cougars I don't think it will help),
soap smells are unnatural and associated in the deer's mind with humans, if
the deer are that frightened of humans. In areas where they are not hunted
the deer are not particularly frightened of humans. Your garden probably
already smells of humans at least in the summer. I don't have a deer
problem, but I do have four dogs who run through the garden on a regular
basis. Some of my relatively close neighbors with no dogs have a severe
deer problem. At least they did until they allowed deer hunting on their
property this year. No deer so far.
