Re: poppy question

Dear Amy:
Thanks for printing the poem. I had to memorize it as a young student.
In the early 70's my husband took me to Europe for a month, my first
time. And the poppies were in bloom, fields of them. For the first
week, I guess every other sentence out of my mouth was, 'Oh my, look at
the poppies !'. Paul had had enough. He said he didn't want to hear one
more word about the d....... poppies.

Well, I suffered until 2 days before we were to leave. There was a huge
field of red corn poppies with, right in the middle, one very tall, huge
pink poppy. I gasped, at which point he said, 'Oh, O.K., go ahead and
say it.' And I did.

In the early 80's in another trip to Europe, we visited a number of
cemeteries from W.W. I and II in Belgium and France. When you see the
thousands of headstones, you really comprehend why that poem was written.
