Hi Susan, I have a friend who swears by her water bed heater for seed
starting. So much so that I am going to try it this year. By the way, I
advertised in our local newspaper (free ad) and got LOTS of responses.
Ended up buying one for $3.00 and then two others offered theirs to me
free. Others wanted from $10 to $25 for theirs. I have a friend who
bought a Seed Starting Mat from one of the garden supply catalogs for
$100.00. In one of those catalogs, they show a picture of the mat and a
metal frame that separates the seed trays from the mat. I am going to use
one of my wive's oven grates for mine. The heaters that I got have
thermostats and a probe to control the temperature. The probe is placed
in the soil. Again, I have not done this myself, but have a friend (a
master gardener) who has and is very happy with her results. I'll let
you know how mine works later. Good luck. Bob
