Peter and David -- Run (don't walk) to the Living Desert Museum and go to
the nursery. See my friend Bob who works in the nursery (I don't know
which days) as a propagator. He'll have some great ideas for you. The
plants they have will be the most successful for you, and don't assume that
everything they have is cactus and succulents, they have some wonderful
perennials, trees, shrubs, etc. that will suit your purposes. Good luck
