It usually takes a 1-2 seasons to get perennials establishes although
this varies from group to group and the lenght of your growing season.
It is common practice for gardener's the first few years to use a lot of
annuals until thier base plants fill in and mature. Most of the plants
you selected also take a while to develop. You indicate that the texture
of your soil is not a problem which is a big plus. I would still
recommend adding compost to add organic matter. Also a good liguid
fertilizer applied several times during the growing season would be
benefical. Since I have no idea of the size of your gardens, light
exposure, number of plants, and mulches if any I have had to be fairly
general but it sounds like you are off to a good start.
Feel free to email me any of your questions we like to help if we can.
A web site we highly recommend to everyone is:
http:// www.oakmediacreations.com/myg/index.html
They offer timely tips, a monthly newsletter, and many excellent links to
other resources. Such as county extesion services, seed companies, herbs,
perennials, and garden sources such as the Virtual Garden and Garden
Escape. Cannot recommend it enough particularly for the new gardener.
