those 1200 bulbs

Hello Kris...
Sorry to be a bit late in answering. I had to drive to Ottawa yesterday..just got back now .
You were wondering about all of those bulbs.

I used different methods in planting:

Some were planted with a hand held planter..(just the standard type - I never have too much luck with the ones that are spring loaded as sometimes they seem to be made of a lighter guage of metal.)
Others.....including ones that I naturalized in the lawn...I just used a shovel to peel back the sod(leaving one side intact)...loosen the earth...mix in some composted hen manure...a little bone meal....press in bulb....cover with earth...firm with hand....flip sod back to original position...then some water.
Others....I peeled away a chunk of sod...(ex. 2x3 feet area....with the sod cut in sections).. prepare the bed as you ordinarily would...If you like you can toss your bulbs in for a natural effect....press...add compost and bone meal as above...firm  ..cover...replace sod...water. This method saves a lot of time if you are going for a bed affect.
As an added note...I live in eastern Canada...(Now you know why I didn't answer right away)...in Can. zone 4b-5a depending on who you want to argue with..... Anyway...I was able to plant bulbs on Dec. 22! Not much for establishment, I know, but we'll see what happens.
........Neil
