bags o dirt & mail order

On the subject of planting in soil bags, either it's worms way or
gardeners eden that sell "bags" just for this purpose. They also sell a
bracket for hanging them on a wall.

As for growing tomatoes in one, it shouldn't be a problem. Tomatoes are
heavy feeders but their roots aren't really that deep, unless you
planted them that way. They need warm soil to grow and plenty of water.
A 16" plastic flower pot will do, and for that matter, a 5 gal. bucket
of water will work just as well. Just give 'em something to hold on to!
I have grown tomatoes both ways and gotten great tomatoes eat, I also
planted those tall African Marigolds with them to keep the bugs away.

On the mail order subject, I plan on visiting Gene Bush's Munchkin
Nursery this spring, which is a day's drive from me. I have two friends
who want to go with me and we will hit every nursery on the way and yes,
spend way to much money!... But we also share plants and ideas and
basicly have a great time doing it. Isn't that what gardening is about?
Doing what we love with people who love it too! I think that the mail
order route takes away from that. I will however order a few things
that I can't get here from Gene and a few others I like.

I'd hate to miss out on a day of fun with my friends.
