Re: irrigation

Nan, I was hoping to hear from you. I thought you'd be familiar with
irrigation - living in the San Diego area. No one I know around here is
irrigating flowers yet, so being the first I hoped not to make the most
mistakes. Some are starting to put in sprinklers on lawns however.

The reason I questioned is that last fall I tried a couple sprinklers by
the house on some black eyed susans. Within a week or so I noticed a
white mildew on them. Those in the other beds didn't have the mildew.

My plants are not grouped according to water needs. However I figure I
can adjust that according to the emitter size (1 gph up to 3 gph) and
could even run more than one line to the larger plants.

I will look for Bob Kouricks Drip Irrigation for Every Landscape. Along
with The Well Tended Perennial Garden and Strong Women Stay Young
(probably will need the last one most of all) :-)

How often do you water? Do you try to get moist soil to a certain
depth? We'll be watering manually at first.

Earlier you talked about grasshoppers. We had hoards of them with the
drought. Finally sprayed with sevin to save the perennials.
