I hope someone can help me id this plant that my mother has. She bought a
house with the plant there, and typically the garden does not have anything
very unusual, but there are so many perennials out there, I just don't know
what it is! Here's what I know:
At least 4' tall, in a 3' bunch, and in its height of bloom now.( She's in
zone 8, OR)
Purple, and I mean like Liatris(Gayfeather) pinkish-purple.
Flowers in tall spike 6-8" long, tiny 5 petaled and(with yellow ) not wider
than a centimeter
Leaves are smooth, mid-green; sometimes alternate and sometimes opposite
No scent to speak of from leaves or flowers
NO runners
stems are green and not particularly square
I have tentatively ruled out Veronicas and definitely not Agastache (because
of no scent) but I wonder about some type of Lythrum or Loosestrife? The
pictures I've seen of the Loosestrife that is banned for invading our
wetlands seems too pink and the flowers look to be about an inch wide, and
stems looked red. However, this is the closest I've seen.
It's a beautiful plant and I'd really like to know what it is.
Happy Weekend,
