Re: Verbena hastata 'Polaris'

Susan,
Perhaps Dan was selling Verbena hastata 'Polaris.' This differs from the species in that the flowers are the palest china blue, almost white. I grow 'Polaris' and the regular species, which, as you noted, has lavender flowers. Both grow about 2' tall and have tuberous roots. Because plants spread by rhizomes, they both have the potential to become nuisances in rich, moist soil.
I have no problems with containment since mine are used as a blooming groundcover in dry, hard clay.
J.L. Hudson offers seed of V. hastata; I have also noticed 'Polaris' seed for sale, which tells me it must come fairly true from seed. All Verbenas need 3 months of moist stratification at 40F to germinate.

Best,
