It may have more to do with placement. Crocosmia seem to like a very
well drained spot and are especially susceptible to moisture during the
winter. I would think, though, that if you've got it planted in the same
beds as those others then there'd be no problem, but...
As far as hardiness zones go, a friend in Lansing (Zone 5B) has several
clumps of Crocosmia 'Lucifer' growing and multiplying to the extent that
she divides them almost every year. Within a couple weeks it's not
noticable that the clumps have been divided. Crocosmia doesn't seem to
like my clay at all.
