Gene,
you just missed the combined sale of hostas, daylilies, and daffs here in
Louisville. Was just this past weekend. And yes, it was a madhouse from
what I hear. They always advertise that they will be open until 1:00, but
there's nothing left after about an hour of the opening. The rare
offerings are always grabbed up first no matter the price.
There's always a sale to benefit Farmington in early spring, too. It's
herbs and perennials with a decent selection and more than reasonable
prices. The same situation exists, however, in that the plants will all be
gone within a few hours. Only the common varieties are left.
What does this tell me? The public is hungry for plants -- and the unusual
offerings in particular. Why more nurseries don't pick up on this is
beyond me.
