Finally heard from my sister in regards to the square stem and odor
question about the weed we're trying to identify. Here is her reply:
"The weed MAYBE has a square stem. It is not really obvious, but could
be a little flat on the sides of the stem. Can't really notice an odor.
It does not have underground runners, but shows up in patches, starting
off as very small plants, which makes it seem as if it is growing from
seed. It likes shade and damp areas."
When I was helping her pull alot of it I think I remember a slight odor
on my hands, but not sure what type of smell.
The other suggestion I received was possibly a clear nettle (thanks
Nancy). If I figure it out, I'll pass the info along.
