Nancy, I sympathize. By this time last year I'd been stung 3 times, merely working in the garden, no "squishing" going on. This year, so far, so good.
I did read that a good home remedy (if you are extremely allergic, besides tripling my antihistamines) was to put meat tenderizer on the sting. I forget what it does, and I haven't tried it yet myself, but the article re this sounded reasonable enough.

I just wanted to give everyone some good advice.. don't mash Japanese
beetles through a closed Hibiscus blossom. There could be a small
bumble bee in there too that will not be happy. So now you know. My
thumb does not hurt too much.
