Re: New phlox

Hello Nancy,
I know we went through this one last year about this time, but we
purchased 3 Crocosmia at two different nurseries last spring and planted
them in JoAn's raised beds. Not a one made a return visit this spring. All
rotted during winter. Can not seem to hold our mouths right on this one. We
both like the plants, but can not keep them.
Agree with you on ghost. Cross between the Japanese painted fern and the
Lady fern... color of the painted and upright vase shape of the lady fern.
Very nice indeed. I have used it in two different locations in my garden
since last fall.
Have you tried the East Indian holly fern (Arachnoides simplicior
variegata)? I saw it in a local garden last year and then saw it listed in a
catalog with a zone rating of 5... had been listed as zone 7 in the past for
hardiness. It has been in Wayside catalog for some years now. Would have
purchased it years ago had it been rated for colder winters in their
catalog. Glossy deep green fronds with a yellow stripe down the middle.
Small to medium fern at about 18 inches.
