I have to rave about these newer introductions. Here in Oregon, I had given up on phlox because of the powdery mildew problems. I tried the two above, 'David' because it is supposed to be disease resistant, and 'Franz Schubert' because it was purportedly a beautiful lavender (and it is). BOTH, at two years old, in my stuff and cram beds (which increases the risk of disease) have been clean as a whistle, bloomed well and 'David' is fragrant enough to notice from several feet away.
I also have to comment on David's leaves. They are in some ways quite un-phlox like, being more shiny than felty, which probably accounts for the clean leaves. About 4 1/2' feet for me and has increased well in two years making a 3' wide stand from a 4" pot.
