There are some dwarf form, single or semi-double, that blooms early in a pot
for decks or patios. The trouble is that if you buy them locally, what is on
the package label many not be in the package. The happens very often.
There is also some system that dahlia people know of that tells you how many
blooms a plant will produce (providing you get it to bloom).
Probably it is a good idea to buy dahlias from a specialist to get a
correctly named and described tuber. When you find one of the patio types,
they do start early and bloom all summer. I think many people do not want a
special order with the new high postage rates for one or two dahlias.
I have bought at some show or other the patio type in a lavender or purple
color for years. I have yet to find that plant on growing it. It is how I
got a small red that lasted for a long time until I did not put it away soon
enough one year.
Not a bad busines, this putting a picture on a package and putting anything
you like into the package.
