I saw a couple of these trees on garden walks two years ago, had to have one, and planted one myself last year. It was about 8' tall and cost just under $100 from a local garden center (Champaign, IL). BUT AND HOWEVER, I looked this tree up in the American Hort Soc "A-Z Encyclopedia of Garden Plants" (Dirr doesn't mention it specifically). It's called Fagus sylvatica 'Purpurea Tricolor'. If this tree fits the growth expectations of the species, it will grow to 80' tall and 50' wide. No small little garden tree!!
