I agree - I have a first edition in my collection - excellent. "What a man needs most in gardening is a cast-iron back with a hinge" etc etc. You won't learn anything from him but you'd be greatly amused.

He muses on petitioning the Ecumenical Council issue a "bull" of
excommunication against "pusley" whatever that might be.  The word bull is
some irony, I think.
I always thought he was referring to a "papal bull" - a formal pronouncement from the pope that is usually sealed with a leaden "bulla" or seal. It would fit in that he's asking the EC excommunicate.
